From legacy webshop to modern PWA — a relaunch built on real shopper behavior

Case study · UX research · PWA · FMCG

EcoFamily runs more than 70 FMCG stores across Hungary, with a fast-growing share of the grocery and drugstore market. When the company set out to build a more digitally mature, omnichannel presence, the brief was clear: relaunch the online store around real shopper behavior, not just a fresh look.

Challenge: an online store that needed to feel as good as the competition

EcoFamily's existing webshop worked, but it hadn't kept pace with how modern FMCG shoppers browse and buy — fast search, easy repeat orders, and a mobile experience that doesn't feel like an afterthought. The brand needed a relaunch grounded in real user behavior, not assumptions, and one that could scale with an already large and growing store network.

Solution: UX research first, then a modern PWA rebuild

We started with structured UX research and a close look at the latest international FMCG shopping patterns — from grocery to beauty — to understand exactly where the existing store fell short for real customers, not just where it looked dated.

Based on those findings, we rebuilt the storefront as a modern Progressive Web App (PWA) on top of EcoFamily's existing Magento foundation — combining app-like speed and usability with the flexibility of an open commerce platform, so customers can browse and buy across an ever-widening product range without friction.

Result: an online store built around how people actually shop

The relaunched EcoFamily store gives customers a faster, app-like shopping experience across a wide FMCG catalog — from groceries to beauty — while giving the EcoFamily team a platform they can keep growing without starting over. We continue to support EcoFamily's online growth today.

Why this matters for Saudi brands: speed and mobile experience aren't optional

In a market where most e-commerce traffic happens on mobile, a store that feels slow or clunky loses customers before they ever reach checkout. A research-led, app-like approach — fast, mobile-first, and built around real shopping behavior — is exactly the standard Saudi shoppers now expect, whatever platform the store runs on.
